On Oct 4th, Dogwood Health Trust announced more than $30 million dollars in initial funding for Hurricane Helene relief efforts in Western North Carolina.

In a press release, Dogwood shared that the funding will support “short-term, immediate needs” and “was approved by a unanimous vote by the full board of directors at an emergency meeting on Oct. 3.”

This initial funding will be organized in three areas:

  • Supporting organizations that can quickly deploy resources and respond to urgent needs of people and geographic areas most affected. Recipients: MANNA Food Bank, Impact Health, The AMY Wellness Foundation and Gateway Wellness Foundation, and WNC Communities.

  • Supporting assessment, navigation and legal services associated with FEMA response. Recipients: Pisgah Legal Services and The Centralina Foundation.

  • Maintaining critical health services across the region, via funding to WNC’s seven local Federally Qualified Health Centers

Additional funding announcements will be made in the coming weeks “for recovery and rebuilding efforts, including responding to the needs of small businesses, among other opportunities.”
